Induced abortion status of pregnant women in a maternity and child care hospital in Shanghai during 2011-2018

Abstract:
Objective Through the analysis of the characteristics of women who accepted induced abortion in our center in recent 8 years, to provide helpful information and evidence for reducing unwanted pregnancy and induced abortion, especially repeated abortion in the area. Methods By reviewing the record books of uterine aspiration during 2011-2018 in our centre, analysis was done on subjects in relation to their age, household registration, marital status, cause of induced abortion, high risk factors, abortion times and others. Results Among the 56 263 subjects who accepted uterine aspiration, more than half of them whose ages ranged from 20 to 29 (accounted for 56.98%), while the proportion of the subjects aged 40 and above increased year by year; whether married or unmarried, the proportion of migrant subjects was by far larger than that of local subjects.As for contraception during the conception cycles, the majority of the subjects did not take measures before 2014, while since 2015, the majority of the subjects had failed to use condom.As for high risk factors, the proportion of those with more than 3 abortions was 40.89%, which increased year by year.The proportion of those who had 2 abortions within 3 months was 9.89%, and this proportion obviously dropped.It was found that the history of abortion was associated with the age, household registeration, marital status and contraception measures of the subjects. Conclusion According to the year-by-year change in abortion subjects, concern should be focused on migrant women of childbearing age, subjects after abortion, and climacteric group with regards to contraceptive guidance and practice so as to reduce the induced abortion rate to certain extent, especially to reduce the rate of repeated abortions.
