Abstract:
Pericoronary adipose tissue (PCAT) has been considered to modulate vascular remodelling and perivascular inflammation with the secretions of adipocytokines, angiogenesis factors and inflammatory factors in paracrine manner. PCAT plays an important role in the formation, development and destabilization of atherosclerotic plaque. The quantitative parameters and phenotypic changes of PCAT are different between stable and unstable atherosclerotic plaques. The advancements of PCAT in the formation and development of atherosclerotic plaque, as well as imaging based clinical studies on evaluating the stability of atherosclerotic plaque were reviewed in this article.
