Abstract:
Objective: To study the therapeutic effect of intra-arterial infusion of thrombolytic agents for patients with sudden sensorineural hearing loss. Methods: 41 patients were assigned to two groups. In the intra-arterial infusion group, 19 cases were infused 300 000 unit Urokinase via vertebral artery within 30 minutes. In control group, 22 patients were treated intravenously. The criterion of therapeutic effect formulated by Chinese Association of Otorhinolaryngology in 1997 was used to evaluate the therapeutic effect. Results: In the intra-arterial group, 9 of 19 were healed completely. Improvement of hearing loss were observed in 8 cases, among them, 5 showed marked improvement. No improvement in 2 patients. In the control group, 4 patients recovered. 11 improved, 2 of then showed marked improvement. No improvement in 7. Conclusion: Intra-arterially regional infusion of thrombolytic agents may become a new and effective treatment for the patients with sudden sensorineural hearing loss.
