Abstract:
Objective: To observe the effect of Wei Chang An recipe on the survival and metastasis rate of the gastric cancer patients during post-operative period. Methods: A prospective randomized, controlled study was conducted by dividing the 95 patients with advanced gastric cancer into three groups: TCM group, western medicine group, and combined therapy group. The survival and the metastasis rate of the patients were observed. Results: The 3-and 5-year survival rate was 75.9% and 62.8% in the combined therapy group, respectively. They were significantly higher than those in the western medicine group (52.8% and 26.4%, P < 0. 05). The 5-year metastasis rate was 27.78% and 29.41% in the TCM group and the combined therapy group, which were significantly lower than that in the Western medicine group (56%, P <0.05). The 5-year metastasis rate had no significant difference between the TCM group and combined therapy group (P > 0.05). Conclusion: The Wei Chang An recipe combined with western medicine significantly increased the survival rate of gastric cancer patients during post-operative period. Wei Chang An recipe remarkably decreases the postoperative metastasis rate.
