Abstract:
The patients with advanced esophageal cancer have poor survival rate if they are treated by radiotherapy alone. The poor effect of treatment is caused by the failure of local control and the occurrence of distant metastasis. The chemotherapy can be used to improve the control rate of local lesion, and the effective rate is about 3 5%-5 5%. The concurrent chemoradiotherapy not only enhances the sensitivity of tumor tissues to radiotherapy, but also improves the therapeutic effect of chemotherapy drugs. Radiotherapy and chemotherapy cooperate with each other to reduce the progression and metastasis of tumor, and to prolong the survival time of patients. Therefore, the optimization of chemotherapy regimens based on concurrent chemoradiation become an important question in the studies about advanced esophageal carcinoma recently. The clinical application of several chemotherapy regimens for improving the effects of radiotherapy in the treatment of esophageal cancer have been discussed in the paper.
