Abstract:
We reported two cases of delayed myelopathy associated with odontoid fracture due to a nonunion and the resultant instability of the atlantoaxial joint. Both of two cases showed marked compression of cervical cord at C1 level by displaced odontoid process and overgrown fibrous tissue. We performed laminectomy of atals and posterior fusion from occiput to axis with autogenous iliac bone. We also reviewed the reported cases in the literature and surgical consideration.
