Abstract:
Objective:To investigate the prevalence of suicidal behaviors among primary and middle school students its relationship with academic burden in Henan Province, so as to provide evidence for prevention of suicide.
Methods:By stratified sampling, 107 656 primary and middle school students in Henan Province were investigated with Suicidal Behavior Questionnaire and Academic Burden Questionnaire during Feb. to Mar. in 2019.
Results:The prevalences of suicidal ideation, suicide plan and suicide attempt among primary and middle school students in Henan Province were 8.8%, 5.4% and 3.0%, respectively. There were significantly statistical differences in suicidal behaviors among students with different gender, grade, region and boarding status (χ2=11.03-1 670.88, P<0.01). Logistic regression analysis showed that school having fast and slow classes, examination frequency, extracurricular tutoring time, learning pressure, myopia status could positively predict suicidal ideation, suicide plan and suicide attempt(OR=1.05-1.43, P<0.05), course offering, learning attitude, school attitude, self expectation could negatively predict suicidal behaviors (OR=0.44-0.90, P<0.01).
Conclusion:Attention should be paid to the suicidal behaviors of primary and middle school students in Henan Province. Academic burden was a risk factor for suicidal behaviors.
