Abstract:
We have performed percutaneous extraction of renal and upper ureteral stones in 57 patients with ACMI percutaneous nephroscope, ultrasonic lithotriptor, electrohydraulic lithotriptor or a combination of these equipments between June 1987 and August 1988. 61 cases were treated in one session, 4 in a two sessions and 2 in a three sessions. Over all success rate of 82.5% including 72.4% in initial, 92.9% in subsequent period was obtained. And average operating time was 138 minutes and mean hospitalization was 6.2 days. There was no mortality and the incidence of significant complication was low. The advantages of percutaneous nephrolithotomy are that only 1 to 2cm skin incision is required to remove the stone, hospital days are fewer than open surgery, rapid recovery, and sooner return to work. Thus, we concluded that percutaneous nephrolithotomy will continue to have a primary role in the management of renal and upper ureteral stones.
