Abstract:
Objective:To determine the impact of job burnout on perception of risk from adverse events among clinical nurses.
Methods:A total of 480 clinical nurses were recruited from four Secondary B-class hospitals in Tianjin by convenience sampling method, between December 2017 to December 2018. They were investigated with Clinical Nurses Adverse Events Risk Perception Structure Scales and Maslach Burnout Inventory. The relationship between job burnout and perception of risk from adverse events was analyzed.
Results:The total score of clinical nurses adverse events risk perception structure scales was 304.60±59.20. There were significant negative correlations between score of job burnout and perception of risk form adverse events among clinical nurses (r=-0.418--0.334, P<0.01). Regression analysis showed that the factor scores of job burnout such as emotional exhaustion and personal accomplishment could independently explain 42.1% of the variance for perception of risk from adverse events among clinical nurses after controlling demographic variables.
Conclusions:Job burnout can predict the perception of risk from adverse events of clinical nurses, suggesting that nursing managers should reduce the job burnout to improve perception of risk from adverse events among clinical nurses.
