Abstract:
Objective To learn the status of depression and its influencing factors among men who have sex with men (MSM)in Ningbo City, and to provide suggestions for behavior intervention. Methods A respondent driven sampling (RDS)method was performed to recruit MSM from January to May in 2014.A questionnaire investigation was conducted, and logistic regression analysis was used. Results Among 126 cases of MSM,the prevalence of depression was 19. 05%(24/126).There was no significant difference in the prevalence of depression among MSM with different social demographic characteristics (P>0. 05 ).Multivariate logistic regression analysis showed that social discrimination (OR=2. 909,95%CI=1. 034-8. 188)and the thought of being infected with HIV (OR=3. 308,95%CI=1. 079 -10. 140) were risk factors. While using condoms all the time (OR=0. 160,95%CI=0. 047 -0. 547)and willing to accept the regular detection (OR =0. 268,95%CI=0. 081 -0. 881 )were protective factors. Conclusion The prevalence of depression among MSM was higher than that of general population, and more attention should be paid to psychological intervention.Evaluation and intervention of mental illness could be carried out through counseling and testing.
