Abstract:
OBJECTIVE:To study the clinical and pathological characteristics of nonfunctioning parathyroid cysts.
METHOD:Six cases of nonfunctioning parathyroid cysts who were hospitalized during 1997-2007 were retrospectively analyzed. The clinical features, serum calcium, B-ultrasonic, CT and nuclide scanning were performed. Postoperative pathologic and immunohistochemistry detection in nonfunctioning parathyroid cysts were made.
RESULT:Tumors in the 6 cases were underwent surgical ablation and diagnosis was verified by pathology. CgA (chromogranin A), Syn (synaptophysin), NSE (and neuron specific enolase) expressions were positive. Follow-up six months and five years after operation, there is no recurrence.
CONCLUSION:Surgical resection is most effective in treating nonfunctioning parathyroid cysts and diagnosis is made by pathologic examination.
