Abstract: Fine Particulate Matter (PM2.5-particles with an aerodynamic diameter ≤2.5 μm)can penetrate deeply into the lung,deposit in the alveoli,and consequently impair lung function.Both short term and long term exposures to PM2.5 are associated with the incidence of respiratory diseases (e.g.asthma,chronic obstructive pulmonary disease,lung cancer).This paper summarizes the effects of ambient air PM2.5 exposure on human respiratory system revealed by epidemiological studies.
