Abstract:
Objective To assess the effects of non-pharmacological means physical exercise and ketogenic diet on neurobehavior of developmental rats with recurrent seizures. Methods Chinese and English literatures from PubMed,EMBASE,OVID MEDLINE,Chinese Biomedical Literature Database (CBM),Academic literature database,Wan fang database,Chongqing Chinese Science and Technology Periodical Database (the time of building a databaseAugust 2012) by the computer were researched. Those articles according to inclusion and exclusion criterias were inclusived qualified randomized controlled studies and their quality were evaluated. Then the Meta-analysis was performed by Rev Man 5.1.Results 1.Physical exercise intervention:Six articles were included according to the inclusion criterias,2 in Chinese,4 in English. The differences among recurrent-seizure and non-exercise(RS + NE) group,recurrent-sei-zure and physical exercise (RS + PE) group,non-seizure and non-exercise(NS + NE) group,non-seizure and physical exercise(NS + PE) group were respectively compared. There was significant difference in escape latency between RS +NE group and RS +PE group(WMD =13.96,95% CI:8.46-19.46,P <0.000 01).There was no significant difference in escape latency between NS + NE group and NS + PE group(WMD =-1.53,95% CI:-6.77-3.70,P =0.57).2.Ketogenic diet intervention:Five articles were included,2 in Chinese,3 in English. The differences among non-seizure and normal diet (NS + ND) group,non-seizure and ketogenic diet (NS + KD) group,recurrent-seizure and normal diet (RS + ND) group,recurrent-seizure and ketogenic diet(RS + KD) group were respectively compared.(1)There were significant differences in scores and escape latency between NS + ND group and NS + KD group (WMD =18.82,8.80,95 % CI:15.64-22.01,1.48-16.12,P < 0.000 01,P =0.02).(2) There was no significant difference in scores and escape latency between RS + ND group and RS + KD group(WMD =-23.72,7.16,95% CI:-98.55-51.11,-0.52-14.84,P =0.53,0.07).There was significant difference in discharge threshold between RS + ND group and RS + KD group (WMD =34.57,95 % CI:16.46-52.69,P =0.0002).Conclusions This study suggested that non-pharmacological means such as physical exercise and ketogenic diet would protect the brain from damages of irecurrent seizures.Additionally, ketogenic diet may be bad to the neuro-behavior of normal rats. There had no evidence to indicate the relationship between physical exercise and normal rats neurobehavior.
