Effectiveness of community rehabilitation center-based comprehensive management on the prevention and treatment of diabetes

Abstract:
Objective To explore the effectiveness of a management approach involving community rehabilitation based comprehensive prevention and treatment of diabetes.Methods From January 2015 to December 2016,220 patients with type 2 diabetes in our community were randomly divided into a conventional group (n =110)and a comprehensive group (n-110).The conventional group took usual prevention and treatment,and the comprehensive group received community-based comprehensive prevention and management.The two groups were compared on their effectiveness.Results After intervention,fasting blood glucose and glycosylated hemoglobin levels in the comprehensive group were significantly lower than those in the conventional group and pre-intervention levels in the same group(each P ＜ 0.05);Scores on drug therapy,exercise,urine glucose or blood glucose monitoring,dietary compliance,and self-management ability were significantly higher in the comprehensive group than in the conventional group (all P ＜ 0.05);The incidences of hypoglycemia(11.9％ and 21.3％,x2 =5.088,P=0.024),peripheral neuropathy(13.8％ and 28.1％,x2 =9.986,P =0.002),and retinopathy(12.5％ and 26.3％,x2 =9.682,P =0.002)were significantly lower than those in the conventional group.Conclusions Community rehabilitation center-based comprehensive management not only maintains blood sugar stability for diabetic patients,but also improves patients' self-management ability and reduces the occurrence of complications.
