Abstract:
Dexmedetomidine is a highly effective and highly selective adrenergic α2receptor agonist. It is usually used intravenously. However, intranasal administration is widely used for its advantages such as small stimulation, convenient application, and ease of absorption. Intranasal dexmedetomidine can be used as a preoperative and intraoperative sedation during the perioperative period, and postoperative analgesia. It can reduce the adverse reactions caused by other anesthetics. Compared with traditional sedative drugs and other method of administration, dexmedetomidine can have the same or even better effect. The intranasal administration could not only limited to be used in the operating room, but also gradually be applied to the sedation of examination and awake operation in children and adults.
