Abstract:
ObjectiveTo evaluate the effects of collateral veins outside esophageal wall in the formation of esophageal varices. MethodsEndoscopy with ultrasound microprobe was performed in 35 patients with portal hypertension. And the grades of esophageal varix, periesophageal varix and paraeasophageal varix and the form of perforating vein were recorded. ResultsAmong the 35 patients with esophageal varices, periesophageal collateral veins were found in 85.7 % and paraesophageal collateral veins were found in 77.1 %.
