Abstract:
In this study,100 mice were divided into two groups(group A and B)to study the car- cinogenic effect of pitch smoke on skin.Mice in group A were exposed to coal tar pitch smoke(CTPS) 3 hours a day in a box 6 days per week. The average concentration of CTPS in the box was 0.17mg/L. The duration of exposure was 4 months. These mice were followed up for another 4 months.Group B was designed as a control. After eight months, skin neoplasms were found in 40 mice(83.33%)in group A,of which squamous cell carcinomas were found in 32 mice(66.67%).Lymph node metastasis of the carcinoma was found in 8 mice.No skin tumor was found in group B.The result of present study shows that CTPS has strong carcinogenic effect on skin.
