Application and Ethical Significance of Smart Phones in Health Education for Patients with Periodontal Disease

Abstract: Objective:To explore the effect of smart phone's application on health education in patients with periodontal disease,and to analyze its ethical significance.Methods:A sample of 160 patients with periodontal disease was selected from the department of stomatology in our hospital,from June 2015 to June 2016.They were divided into two groups.Patients in the experiment group (n =80) were received health education using smart phone's application,while those in the control group (n =80) were not.The effects of oral health education in both groups were analyzed.Results:Compared with the control group,patients in the experiment group had a better understanding of oral health knowledge and higher compliance of oral health maintenance,and the difference was statistically significant (P ＜ 0.05).Conclusion:The smart phone's application can improve the awareness rate of health knowledge of periodontal disease and the compliance of oral health maintenance,meet the demands of patients with periodontal disease,and highlight the nursing ethical spirit of respecting for patients and wholeheartedly serve for patients in clinic.
