Abstract: Symptoms compatible with irritable bowel syndrome (IBS) such as abdominal pain and diarrhea may co exist in approximately one-third of patients with quiescent inflammatory bowel disease (IBD),so called IBS-like symptoms.These symptoms present as a clinical dilemma for management of IBD and diminish the patients' quality of life remarkably.IBS-like symptoms raise much concern in the research field of IBD in recent years.In this article,the latest research progress focusing on the prevalence,pathogenesis and management of IBS-like symptoms coexisting with quiescent IBD was reviewed.
