Abstract:
Objective To detect the homocysteine (Hcy) level and platelet parameters in patients with retinal vein occlusion (RVO) and to investigate the correlation of above variables with RVO.Methods Measurement of platelet (PLT),mean platelet volume (MPV) and Hcy were performed in 48 patients with clinical diagnosis of RVO,including 22 patients with branch retinal vein occlusion (BRVO) and 26 patients with central retinal vein occlusion (CRVO),while another 40 patients with cataract were collected as controls, and all clinical data were compared and analyzed statistically in all subjects. Results The difference in the level of PLT in RVO group (212.99 +50.10) x 109 · L-1 and the control group (198.11 ±±44.69) x 109 · L-1 has no statistical signifi cance(P > 0.05),and RVO group had higher levels of MPV and Hcy (9.44 ±± 0.97) fL and (8.99 + 0.801) imol · L-1 than the control group (8.66 + 0.96) fL and (8.38 + 0.623) μmol · L-1 (P < 0.05).Furthermore,there was no significant difference in the level of PLT in CRVO group (212.27 +49.07) x 109 L-1,BRVO group (213.84 +52.43) x 109 L-1 and the control group (all P > 0.05).The levels of MPV and Hcy in CRVO group (9.48 ± 0.91) fL and (8.97 ± 0.76) μnol · L-1 and BRVO group (9.40 ± 1.06) fL and (9.01 ±± 0.89) μnol · L-1 were higher than those in the control group (all P < 0.05),but there was no significant difference between CRVO group and BRVO group (P > 0.05).Conclusion High MPV and high Hcy may be the risk factors, which can lead to RVO,and it is a posi tive and effective method of attenuating platelet and Hcy levels to treat RVO.
