Abstract:
PURPOSE: To evaluate the results in patients with a spinal cord injury in pre-existing cervical spondylosis. MATERIALS AND METHODS: This study was conducted in 9 patients with cervical spondylosis with spinal cord injury to evaluate the role of the laminoplasty (modified Itoh s method). The preoperative and final follow-up radiographic and clinical results based on the Pavlov ratio & motor function score were compared. RESULTS: The preoperative motor function score 58.67 (26-92) increased to 90.11 (66-100) of the final score. The recovery rate was 78.78 (58-100%). The initial Pavlov ratio increased from 0.58 to 0.93 at the immediate post-operation and the final ratio was 0.93. Four patients who complained of causalgia were improved immediately after surgery. CONCLUSION: The laminoplasty is a good method for improving the neurological deficits and maintaining the extent of spinal canal widening.
