Abstract:
Purpose: To determine the use of acupuncture in producing analgesia for extracapsular cataract extraction in adults Materials and Methods: 11 patients consented to undergo cataract surgery under acupuncture. Vital signs and visual analogue scale were used to evaluate the effectiveness of acupuncture analgesia Results: No significant change in vital signs was observed. VAS scores taken postoperatively were 0-1 in five patients; 2-3 in five patients and 5 in one patients Conclusion: The study was able to achieve its objective of demonstrating the usefulness of acupuncture analgesia for extracapsular cataract extraction.
