The status of nutrition of woman and children under 5 years old in a mountainous commune

Abstract:
Study on the status of nutrition and its related factors in 276 mothers and 295 children under 5 years old, in which 77.9% were minority at Viet Lam commune, Vi Xuyen district, Ha Giang province from November 2002 to August 2003. The results: 33% of mothers having child under 5 years old were being chronic energy deficiency, in which Kinh ethnic was 31.1%, minority was 33.5%. The malnutrition’s rate of child under 5 years old was 37% (in which the prevalence of malnutrition of Kinh ethnic was 26.2%, minority was 40%). Related factors to the status of nutrition included: low income, low cultural level, mothers were being chronic energy deficiency, the period of time to feed supplement and wean for children not irrational
