Abstract:
Objective To assess the value of MRI in fetal cerebral ventriculomegaly diagnosed by ultrasound and to evaluate the prognosis. Methods Totally 124 fetuses with cerebral ventriculomegaly or suspected with other neurological disea ses were examined by MRI,the diagnosis of MRI and ultrasound were compared. The outcome of pregnancy was followed up.Results Among the 124 fetuses,18 fetuses were diagnosed with ventriculomegaly combined with other neurological diseases by MRI,including 6 fetuses with suspected diagnosis by ultrasound, and 12 fetuses inconsistent with the results of ultrasound. The clinical outcome of 106 fetuses with isolated ventriculomegaly were followed up by MRh 11 fetuses were with termination of pregnancy,95 fetuses were with childbirth.Totally 45 infants was re examined by MRI and 9 cases of nervous system diseases were found among them. The incidence of nervous system diseases in the atrial width 12-15 mm group was higher than that of atrial width 10 <12 mm group (42.11 % vs 3.85%,P <0.01),the asymmetrical bilateral enlargement group was higher than that of symmetrical bilateral enlargement group (54.55% vs 11.76%,P<0.05);96.15% (25/26) infants in the atrial width 10-<12 mm were completely recovered to normal. Conclusion The effective combination of MRI and uhrasound can improve the rate o:f prenatal diagnosis. The fetus with the atrial width 10-< 12 mm has a good prognosis, while atrial width 12-15 mm and asymmetrical bilateral enlargement of the fetuses should pay attention to long-term follow-up after birth.
