Clinical effects of paroxetine in the treatment of chronic obstructive pulmonary disease with depression

Abstract:
Objective To study the efficacy of paroxetine in the treatment of chronic obstructive pulmonary disease( COPD) with depression.Methods 110 COPD patients with depression were randomly divided into the observation group and control group according to the random number table method,55 cases in each group,the control group was given psychological counseling while the observation group received paroxetine on basis of the control group.The clinical effect,arterial oxygen pressure( PaO2 ) ,arterial partial pressure of carbon dioxide( PaCO2 ) ,forced expiratory volume in one second(FEV1),Hamilton Depression Scale(HAMD) and adverse reaction were compared between the two groups.Results The total effective rate of the observation group was 92.7%,which was significantly higher than 67.3%of the control group(χ2 =13.152,P=0.013);PaO2 ,PaCO2 and FEV1 of the observation group after treatment were (84.8 ±0.3) mmHg,(38.3 ±0.7) mmHg,(1.7 ±0.2) L,which were significantly improved than (67.8 ±1.2)mmHg,(65.3 ±0.8)mmHg,(1.5 ±0.1)L before treatment(t=9.798,10.132,9.693,P=0.029,0.018,0.026),which had a statistically significant difference with the control group after treatment(t =10.021,11.021,10.751,P=0.026,0.018,0.023);HAMD score of the observation group was (11.2 ±0.4)points, which was significantly lower than (17.9 ±0.7)points before treatment(t=9.915,P=0.032),which had a statisti-cally significant difference with the control group after treatment(t=11.723,P=0.031);The adverse reaction of the two groups had no statistically significant difference(χ2 =5.152,P=0.073).Conclusion The application of parox-etine has a good curative effect in the treatment of COPD complicated with depression,which can significantly improve the clinical symptoms of the patients,with no serious adverse reactions.
