Abstract:
The theory of 'restraint subsequent to disorders caused by unrestrained excess' is the essence of the doctrine on yunqi(five successive evolutive phases corresponding to five elements) as well as an important part of the theory of Chinese medicine. It reveals a phenomenon about growth, transformation and restriction that commonly exists in the natural world.Interpromotion and interrestraint of the five elements, opposition and mutual basement of Yinyang, system science, natural phenomena and cultural phenomena are all governed by this theory. This article approaches the theory of 'restraint subsequent to disorders caused by unrestrained excess' from the viewpoint of nature, physiology, pathogenesis, therapeutics and practice, pointing out its significance in the development and clinical modernization of Chinese medicine.
