Abstract:
The aim of this study was to investigate the effect of reconstituted bone xenograft (RBX) on the repair of bone defect in mandibular cyst patients, and observe the biocompatibility between RBX and host. Twenty-eight mandibular cyst patients, including 16 males and 12 females, were enrolled from the Department of Stomatology in the First People's Hospital of Guilin between July 2005 and December 2006. There were 18 cases with inferior mandibular cyst and 10 cases with superior mandibular cyst. They were treated with the RBX implantation into the bone defect sites. All of 28 patients received 12-month follow ups. No obvious systemic reaction was found, and no abnormality was detected by immunology. At months 3-6 postoperatively, RBX degradation and bone substitute occurred in all patients.
