Abstract:
AIM: To explore the effect of rehabilitation in perioperative period on outcome of total knee arthroplasty. METHODS: China Journal Full-text Database (CJFD) was undertaken to identify relevant articles on perioperative rehabilitation after total knee arthroplasty published from January 1996 to December 2006. Training approaches of the joint and its influence on the outcome of total knee arthroplasty were analyzed. RESULTS: The most important contents of rehabilitation therapies are the education before surgery, range of joint motion, training of muscle strength, joint position sense and gait. After rehabilitation training, range of joint motion, muscle strength of the lower limb, joint position sense and gait recovered to normal. CONCLUSION: Perioperative rehabilitation of total knee arthroplasty is important to improve the clinical outcome and is a crucial measure to achieve expected outcome of surgery.
