It was showed that the blood and its some products are the main source that can transmit the human immunodeficiency virus (HIV), 21 146 blood donors from some rural areas of Jiangsu and Zhejiang provinces had been subjected to screening their sera for HIV antibodies by ELISA, indicating that 89 of them showed the positive enzyme-labeled antibody reaction. The sera of all the 89 blood donors had been further tested by westernblot (WB), 85 of whom had had the negative results, with the rest 4 blood donors having the bands of P24 and/or P55. These 4 blood donors who had passed the serological follow-up for 9 months, did not have showed and new bands. According to the judgment criteria recommended by the Consortium for Retrovirus Serology Standardization of the United Sates, these 4 blood donors can be considered as the donors with nonspecific bands.
