Abstract:
Serum hormone contents have been determined among three groups: group A—51 males aged 60—80 with 10 years or more of experience in Tai Ji Quan; group B—47 males of the same age used as control; group C—17 ordinary adults aged below 50. The results are as follows:The indicators of the thyroid axis and the gonad axis are improved in group A as compared with those in group B. TSH, FSH and LH at the pituitary level in group A are significantly higher than those in group B, suggesting that the effect of Tai Ji Quan in helping keep fit and prevent diseases is brought about by the regulatory action of the neuro-endocrine center on the associated glands and consequently by invigorated systemic metabolism through the action of the endocrine hormones. It is a recommendable physical exercise intended as a means of acquiring good health and a longer life.
