Abstract:
Objective:To investigate the effect of target-controlled infusions of propofol on hemodynamics of patients. Methods:20 patients scheduled for their elective orthopedic surgery underwent their intravenous anesthesia through target controlled infusions of propofol. The non-invasive thoracic bioimpedance and‘depth' of anaesthesia were used to assess their steady state in the cardiovascular system and the Bispectral index, used to monitor the effect site concentration of the drug after they had been anesthetized to reach a constant effect site concentration of propofol. Results:Their heart rates levelled off at 20 min,Bispectral index,at 32 min,and cardiac index and mean arterial pressure,at 47 min after achieving its effect site stability with their final levels being 21%,47%,14%and 28%,respectively,which were lower than those at their initial effect site stability. Conclusion:The cardiovascular parameters continued to change to a clinically significant degree after achieving a constant effect site concentration of propofol via target-controlled infusions.
