Abstract:
Objective: To study the protective effect of Sodium ferulate on rat brain microvascular endothelial cells(BMEC) injured by hypoxia. Methods: BMEC from Wistar rat cerebral cortex was cultured and placed in an anoxia chamber with 95%N2 and 5% CO2 for 12 hours.BMEC activity or injury was assayed by observing cell ultramicrostructures and measuring viability by methyl thiazolyl tetrazolium(MTT) assay, trypan blue staining(TBST) and the lactate dehydrogenase(LDH),a marker of cell death. Results: The BMEC activity and viability was decreased after hypoxia as assessed by MTT,TBST and LDH,The ultrastructure of BMEC was damaged after hypoxia.SF could enhance BMEC activity and viability and ameliorate hypoxia injury. Conclusions: Sodium ferulate exerts protective action on BMEC injured by hypoxia.
