Observation on effects of DSA transcatheter arterial chemoembolization therapy for patients with advanced cancer

Abstract:
Objective:To evaluate 35 cases of cancer by transcatherter arterial chemoembolization(TACE)during June.2003 and December.2004 in the department where the authers worked among which 21 cases were liver cancer,6 gastric cancer,6 colon cancer and rectum cancer,and 2 cancer of head of pancreas.Methods:Seldinger's method was used in DSA and combined with EPI、HCPT、5-FU and actinomycin D.Results:The overall responsive rate was 90%(19/12) in hepatic carcinoma patients and progressive disease appeared(PD) in three patients.no evident side-effects of chemotherapy appeared and no recurrence occured in 6 cases of colon cancer and rectum cancer.2 patients(signet-ring cell carcinoma) died in 6 cases of stomach cancer and the other 4 cases were followed up,2 cases of carcinoma of head of pancreas also no recurrence and no metastasis after treated by TACE.Conclusion:The method of TACE in DSA for patients who had no chance to be operated has the effect of inhibiting the growth of carcinoma cells and prolong patient's living time.For pastaperative patients TACE can also decrease the side-effects of chemotherapy and increase the drug effectiveness,so this method is very valuable in clinic popularization.
