Clinical value of procalcitonin on early diagnosis of sepsis

Abstract: Objective To study the clinical value of procalcitonin on early diagnosis of sepsis .Methods 60 patients who entered ICU were enrolled in the present study were chosen .The change of procalcitonin , CRP, WBC,ESR,GRANR and the highest temperature was observed dynamically with 1 day and 4 days in hospitalization . The patients were ultimately divided into the two groups according to the diagnostic standard of sepsis ,the sepsis group (SIRS group) and infective systemic inflammatory response syndrome group (NONSIRS group).Results After ana-lyzing the processed data,researchers found that PCT of the sepsis group (6.73 ±1.31)ng/mL was higher evidently than that of the SIRS group(0.25 ±0.05)ng/mL(t=3.10,P<0.05),the area under ROC curve of PCT (0.869) is evidently greater than CRP(0.798),WBC(0.737) and ESR(0.394)(P<0.05),which had statistical significance. Conclusion Procalcitonin is a good index of early diagnosis on sepsis ,therefor,its sensitivity and specificity is higher than the other inflammatory indicators .Finally,procalcitonin can be widely used in clinical trial .
