Abstract:
Objective:To investigate the protective effect of ascorbic acid on dexamethasone-induced intraocular hypertension in rabbits.Methods:20 white rabbits were divided into four groups, with 5 in each one group.Every group was treated differently.Their intraocular pressure (IOP) and ascorbic acid concentration of aqueous humors were detected.Their eyeballs were studied for morphologic analysis. Results:There were statistical difference in IOP and ascorbic acid concentration of aqueous humors between the trial group subconjunctivally injected with dexamethasone and control groups.Their histological changes were significantly different. Conclusion:Subconjunctival injection of ascorbic acid can delay and alleviate the dexamethasone-induced intraocular hypertension in rabbits.
