Abstract:
Objective To explore the causes, clinical characteristics and treatment for chestnut thorn foreign bodies in the eyes to provide scientific basis for their diagnosis and treatment at grassroots hospitals. Methods Ninety cases with chestnut thorn foreign bodies in the eyes were studied retrospectively, including their onset, vision, severity, diagnosis, treatment, as well as effectiveness of ophthalmologic operation followed-up for three months. Results Number of male cases were more than that of females, and number of those below 50 years old were more than that of those equal to or over 50. Compound trauma was identified in 25. 6% of total cases. All the foreign bodies were successfully removed directly, with an incision, or with phacoemulsification and intraocularlens implantation. No any operation complication or infection during following-up after antibiotic treatment was observed.
