Abstract:
Homocysteine(Hcy) is a kind of sulphur-containing amino acid, the intermediate product of the methionine metabolism. It has been shown that hyperhomocysteinemia(HHcy) is a new, indispensable and independent risk factor of atherosclerosis and thrombus diseases by many epidemiological studies, but the mechanism is still not clear. We reviewed the research progress on HHcy causative factor, its relation with cardiovascular and cerebrovascular diseases, the mechanism of its resulting in atherosclerosis, to provide evidence for formulating reasonable schedule of treatment.
