Abstract:
AIM: To observe the effects of telmisartan on serum uric acid metabolism and microalbuminuria excretion in patients with mild to moderate essential hypertension. METHODS: 88 patients with mild to moderate essential hypertension were randomly divided into treatment group (n=44) and control group (n=44). Patients of the treatment group received telmisartan 40 mg p.o. q.d. for 2 weeks, and those of control group received felodipine 5 mg p.o. q.d. for 2 weeks, then, followed by a doubling dose for another 2 weeks in those patients with seated diastolic blood pressure ≥90 mmHg or systolic blood pressure ≥140 mmHg. Before and after the therapy of telmisartan or felodipine, blood pressure, serum uric acid and microalbuminuria of the patients were measured. RESULTS: Both SBP and DBP decreased in two groups after the treatment. In telmisartan group decreasing serum uric acid level was better than that in felodipine group (P
