Abstract:
Synaptophysin,a presynaptic vesicle protein found in all nerve terminals,is readily detectable by immunocytochemistry and is useful in the identification of axonal nerve terminals and synapses.Upregulation of synaptophysin might play an important role in neurotransmitter release and neuronal plasticity.Synaptophysin is increased in the superficial layers of the dorsal horn during the development of chronic pain.Synaptophysin levels are temporally correlated with thermal hyperalgesia, but not with tactile allodynia.Upregulation of synaptophysin might be one of the mechanisms for neuropathic pain.
