Abstract:
Objective To investigate the association between a 45-bp insertion/deletion(Ins/Del) polymorphism in the 3′-untranslating region(3′-UTR) of its exon 8 in uncoupling protein 2(UCP-2) gene and diabetic retinopathy(DR).Methods A total of 183 patients with diabetic mellitus(DM) were selected,51 with DR,132 without DR.UCP-2 gene polymorphism was confirmed by electrophoresis after PCR,then genotype and allele gene frequency were compared. Results No significant difference of genotype frequencies for 3′-UTR Ins/Del polymorphism of UCP-2 was found between control group and DR group, and no difference in two alleles frequencies. Conclusion No relationship of a 45-bp Ins/Del polymorphism in the 3′-UTR of exon 8 in the UCP-2 gene was found with DR.
