Abstract:
The effects of octreotide on DNA synthesis and the expression of endogenous insulin like growth factor I(IGF I)in newborn calf vascular smooth muscle cells(VSMCs) in vitro were analysed with 3 H thymidine incorporation and immunocytochemistry respectively.Concentration over 1 nmol/L of octreotide inhibited the increasing of 3 H thymidine incorporation induced by serum and IGF I in VSMCs. Serum and IGF I could stimulate the synthesis of endogenous IGF I in VSMCs.When cultured with 10 nmol/L of octreotide, the gray value of IGF I rose 16 0% and 13 3% respectively. It is suggested that octreotide can inhibit DNA synthesis induced by serum and IGF I in VSMCs,and the expression of endogenous IGF I in VSMCs.
