Abstract:
The microbiological condition of the conjunctival sac before IOL implantation in old people is report- ed.The study comprised 4 groups.In the first gro- up,35 cases with normal cul-de-sacs were cultured weekly for 3～4 wks,totalling 124 times.Among them,16 cases(45.7%)showed positive results in 32 cultures(25.8%).In the second group,cultures were taken at 8:00 AM on the day of operation, resulting in a 19.2% positive rate.In the third group,in which specimens for culture were taken im- mediately before the conjunctival incision was made, the positive rate was also 19.2%.The fourth group contained cases with chronic conjunctival congestion.
