Abstract:
The therapeutic effects of verapamil on renal functions was evaluated in rabbits with acute renal failure induced by glycerol injection. The amount of uriue output, blood urea nitrogen (BUN), and filtrated excretional fraction of sodium (EFNa) were determined before and 24, 48, and 72 hours after glycerol injection. It was found that verapamil exerts favorable effects on renal functions by increasing the urine output and decreasing BUN and EFNa. The machanism of the therapeutic effects of verapamil on renal functions was discussed.
