Abstract:
In the study, we determined the rate of appearance of micronuclei in lymphocytes of patients with malignant or benign gastric disorders as well as healthy subjects. The values are 3.40?0.26% for healthy subjects, 9.85?0.75% for gastric carcinoma, 5.62?0.33% for atrophic gastritis, and 4.86?0.23% for superficial gastritis (mean?SEM). There are very significant differences between gastric carcinoma and controls(p0.05). The results suggest that the rate reflects the degree of mutation and damage of chromosomes. The number of micronuclei increases with the degree of malignancy of carcinoma, suggesting that the determination of micronuclei may have a prognostic value and predictive of a relapse of carcinoma. The authors suggest that this method may be used as a tool in mass screening of gastric cancers.
