Abstract:
The Chinese medicinal plant Polygonum cillinerve(Nakai)Ohwi(Polygonaceae) grows in Shanxi Province.Its roots are often used by the natives of Shanxi as a traditional cure for amygdalitis, gastritis, colitis and dysentery.Two crystalline compounds I and II were isolated.On the basis of chemical reactions and spectral analyses, I and II were identified as emodine-8-0-B-D-glucoside and emodine respectively.These compounds are antibacterial constituents.
