Abstract:
In order to raise the survive rate of FHF patients, an artificial liver support system of absorptive type was assembled. The main portion of this device is a stainless steel container filled with specially prepared activated charcoal (supplied by Shanghai Activated Charcoal Factory), of which the fine granules are well-coated with collodion and thoroughly-infused with heparin.Experimental hemoperfusion was performed on 20 dogs with this system. Eatri hpmoperfusion lasted for 2 hours and 21 indices were evaluated before and after each experiment. It was found that the blood leucocytes, lymphocytes and fibrinogen were reduced 15.7%, 20.8%, and 6.1% respectively, and the serum creatinine, uric acid, corticosteroid, thyroxine, amino acids, etc were also reduced markedly. Several of the experimental animals showed a slight lowering of blood pressure during the experiment, which was corrected by injection of dopamine. All the dogs survived after the experiment. These data suggested that this artificial liver support system worked well either on biocompatibility, absorptive properties, or safety.
