Abstract:
A specific radioimmunoassay (RIA) for arginine vasopressin (AVP) in unex-tracted human and rat plasma was developed by using an AVP antiserum prepared by ourselves. The sensitivity was 1.2pg per tube, and the recovery of AVP was 112% for human plasma and 117 % for rat plasma. Serial dilutions of plasmay ielded curves that were parallel to the AVP standard curve The intraassay and interassay coefficients of variation were 4.2% and 23.04%, respectively.By using this method, the mean concentrations of AVP were 5.2pg/ml in 4 normal human subjects and 4 2?0.3pg/ml (x?S.E.)in 10 intact rats. The value of AVP in the rat plasma reached 34.4? 9.7pg/ml (x?S.E.)after 36-hour dehydration. We believe that this method can reflect changes of AVP concentration under pathophysiological conditions, and can be used as a useful tool in the diagnosis and investigation of some diseases
