Abstract:
Objective:To study the natural progress of chronic periodontitis and its association with IL-1 genetic polymorphisms.Methods:166 subjects with chronic periodontitis were examined at baseline and in 1 year after 1st visit by measuring the probing depth(PD),attachment loss(AL) and bleeding on probing on 6 sites of each tooth.DNA samples were obtained with buccal swabbing technique and genotyped for IL-1-889 and IL-1+3954 genetic polymorphisms with PCR-RFLP in 111 cases of the subjects. Results:The mean PD,AL increace was 1.12 mm and 1.628 mm respectively within 1 year.249 teeth had more than 2 mm attachment loss over one year period in 94 patients. There was no significant difference for the distribution and frequency of IL-1A-889 genotypes and alleles between the rapidly progressive group(with AL≥2 mm at least one site) and the non-rapidly progressive group. The distribution of IL-1B+3954 genotype 1/2 and the frequency of the allele 2 were significantly higher in the rapidly progressive group than that in the non-rapidly progressive group(P
