Abstract:
Objective To explore the damage effect of formaldehyde on DNA in cells of rats. Methods 24 SD rats were randomly divided into 6 groups, formaldehyde (10, 20, 30, 40 mg/kg), distilled water and cyclophospho acetic acid (as the positive control) were given i.p. 24 hours after treatment. Comet Assay were used to detect DNA damage in the cells of the liver, kidney and lung. Results The DNA damage induced by formaldehyde was found in cells of the three organs and the significant dose-response relationship was demonstrated also. Conclusion Formaldehyde can induce DNA damage in cells of rats. The result of the present paper indicates once again that formaldehyde has genetic toxicity.
