Abstract:
Purpose: To study the expression of Fhit in non-small cell lung cancer ( NSCLC) and the relationship between loss of Fhit expression and the clinicopathological features of NSCLC. Methods: One hundred and two cases of NSCLC with adjucent tissues and healthy lung tissues were selected randomly. These samples were detected by immunohistochemistry , and the clinicopathological features of NSCLC were analyzed. Results: The expression of Fhit was localized in cytoplasm of NSCLC cells and epithelial cells of bronchioles in neighboring noncancerous tissues . Thirty-one of 102 (30. 4%) tumors had cytoplasmic Fhit staining, while all adjacent normal lung tissues were positive. Fhit expression was positive in seven of 35 (20%) atypical hyperplastic bronchial lesions . We also found the correlation was of statistical significance between loss of Fhit expression and histological types , degree of differentiation, clinical stage and the smoking history of patients( P
